Education is one of the most important aims of the Raptor Trust and every opportunity is taken to provide information on the world of the bird of prey to the general public. This we do in two main areas: Shows As well as being an important way to raise revenue, attendance at shows gives the Trust the greatest potential to reach a large number of people and simply to talk to them about our native birds of prey as well as enabling them to see the birds in their true majesty in the flying demonstrations which are always accompanied by an informative commentary. We attend all types of event, from the Royal Norfolk Show to small Street Fairs where we give a static display of our collection of birds of prey and up to two flying demonstrations daily. If you would like further information on booking us for your event, please see our show details page. Talks & Lectures All through the year we travel the Norfolk and north Suffolk area giving illustrated talks to various interested parties, accompanied (in the flying season) by a bird of prey which we will endeavour to fly, subject to the venue. Adult Groups: We have many times been guest speakers to such groups as W.I, Rotary Club, Probus and the RSPB, and these functions are an ideal way of getting the message for the need of conservation across on an informal basis. We will make a small charge for attending, dependent upon travelling and time required. Youth Groups & Schools: The Trust believes most strongly that our children hold the key to the future of the environment, and our work with children involves practical projects and general talks about birds of prey, including their prey species and the type of habitat required for the survival of both. It is important that children understand at an early age that without the correct balance in nature, little can survive. These visits are free of charge. |
