Wings
Quite an important bit of kit if you're a bird, and one
of Natures wonders |
The
structure and workings of the wings are dealt with in more detail
in the wings section on diurnal
birds of prey.
The
same basic principles apply to owls, with those of closed country
such as the Tawny owl having short, broad wings and those of open
country such as the Barn and Short-eared owls having longer, narrower
wings. The Short-eared owl has particularly long wings for its
size, with a 400g bird having a wingspan of over a metre.
